Jet-Engine Aircraft
Since the airplane’s inception, development of lighter, smaller, and more powerful propulsion has been a major focal point. During the 1930s, jet-engine technology really began to take shape with English and German scientists leading the way. With the advent of World War II, development was kicked into high gear in an effort to gain the upper hand against the respective foe. By that time, it had been well established that the secret to winning warfare was in air power. The side that controlled the skies would be the eventual victor. Unfortunately, usable jet-engine technology evolved too late during the war to be of any consequence.
