• Activities: Alfred Whitted is a nice gateway to the St Petersburg / Tampa Bay area. Our plan on this day was to tour the Old St Pete area and have lunch at the Renaissance Vinoy Resort.. The whole trip was everything we could have hoped for and more. The info in the PIREP below is essentially correct. Here are some additional details: At the airport: - The Bay FBO has become a maintenance-only facility. When you land, tell the tower you want to park at "St Petersburg Flying Service". They have replaced Bay as the field's FBO. -- Ramp fee is $15/day. Waived (at least for the first day) with 5+ gallons of fuel purchased. -- $.20 cent fuel discount on Sundays -- VERY friendly and helpful folks. They even waived the ramp fee for me today because we were only there for an hour. The girl at the desk said they also usually won't charge a ramp fee for an aircraft which is just doing a quick pick-up or drop-off. Two options to get to the Renaissance Vinoy Resort from the airport: 1) Call the resort ( 727-824-8005 727-824-8005 ) and ask them to send a car. They will send one from the "Metro Car" service. $10 1-way. Cars seat 4 passengers. 2) Walk about a block and jump onto the town's trolley. The trolley costs $.25 cents each time you get on. It has 14 stops around downtown St Pete, including right in front of the Vinoy. Once you're at the resort: - If you are not a guest of the hotel, you can only eat in two of the restaurants: Alfresco's and Marchand's. -- Alfresco's offers outside seating and is a bit more relaxed overall. Casual dining, no reservations needed/taken. (Hours: 7-days, 1100-2100) -- Marchand's was all inside and appeared to be a bit more upscale. Reservation recommended for dinner. No shorts or jeans for dinner, otherwise conservative attire required.
