• Activities: The United States Air Force Museum near Dayton, Ohio is the oldest and largest military aviation museum in the world. The Museum houses hundreds of aircraft and other aviation displays in various layouts. Although the focus is on the history of the US Air Force, the museum tells the story of aviation's development from the days of the Wright brothers to the Space Age. Exhibits include over 300 aircraft and missiles, plus family oriented and historically interesting aeronautical displays. Best of all, there is no museum entrance fee. The Presidential and Research & Development/Flight Test Hangars, housing approximately 50 aircraft, including the Museum's collection of Presidential aircraft are located on the active part of Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. These displays are accessible using the shuttle bus service from the main Museum complex. It is also free and runs continuously from 10 am to 4 pm. Military personnel can access these on their own.

• Flying Tips: Unfortunately, the runways at the museum itself are closed. Military pilots flying their private aircraft can obtain permission to land at Wright Patterson AFB. Civilians must use one of the local civil airfields. In addition to Springfield-Beckley (Identifier: KSGH), non-military pilots could also fly into Greene County-Lewis A. Jackson Regional Airport, 11 nm SW (Identifier: I19) if they wanted somewhere a little smaller.
