Red Power

Schweiss Doors, a Minnesota-based company that provides bifold and hydraulic one-piece hangar doors, announced they've developed a new, more powerful and smoother-running hydraulic pump system called "Red Power." The Red Power Hydraulic Pump comes to the buyer in a compact unit, ready to be mounted where the buyer wants it, whether it be on a wall, top-hung, floor or back room. Red Power hydraulic pumps come in 2 hp and go all the way up to 10 hp for larger doors. Visit www.bifold.com.

Rotax 912 iS

BRP has received the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) Type Certificate (TC) for the new Rotax 912 iSc aircraft engine. "The EASA Type Certificate (TC) comes only a few weeks after the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) certified the Rotax 912 iS engine, allowing BRP to produce certified ROTAX 912 iSc engines for the European market. These are important milestones in the commercialization of new aircraft engines," said Gerd Ohrnberger, Vice President, BRP Powertrain. BRP's Rotax aircraft engines team will concentrate on getting FAA certification and other countries will follow as each has its own validation process. Visit www.brp.com.

Flabob Students

Most high-school students can't wait to get a driver's license. That wasn't the case with Jonathan Deming and Tyler Howell, students at the Flabob Airport Preparatory Academy. They opted to get their pilot's licenses first. Both are now private pilots. As participants in one of Flabob's ongoing restoration programs, they worked on an aircraft project and qualified for flying lessons at a rate of $15/hour. Deming graduated this past spring as a member of the Honors Society, and Howell is currently restoring his own EAA Biplane. Sponsored by The Tom Wathen Center, Flabob Airport is utilized for a variety of youth programs. For more information, visit www.flabob.org.

SocialFlight App

Where2 Interactive's new app, SocialFlight, provides pilots with an interactive map of aviation events and allows pilots and aviation enthusiasts to find local events, chat, upload event photos and network with other SocialFlight users. SocialFlight's event database includes nearly 2,000 activities such as fly-ins, air shows, pancake breakfasts, conventions, safety seminars and much more. Users can search for events, add events, get email notifications and add events automatically to their Google or Outlook calendar. Events can be viewed on an interactive map or by using the list view, and they can be searched by date range, event type, organization and distance from the user's home airport.
