Cessna Citation CJ3+ Earns Brazilian Certification
![]() |
Cessna Aircraft Company's Citation CJ3+ received certification by Brazil's Agência Nacional de Aviação Civil. "The range, performance and economics of the Citation CJ3+ make it a natural fit for operations in Brazil, a country that has long been one of Cessna's largest markets," said Bob Gibbs, Vice President, Sales. The range of the Citation CJ3+, at 3,778 kilometers (2,040 nautical miles), gives operators nonstop reach from São Paulo to Manaus or Santiago, and from Manaus to Managua, Nicaragua. With a required takeoff distance of only 3,180 feet, the Citation CJ3+ has access to airports unavailable to larger competitor aircraft. The Citation CJ3+ gained initial certification from the FAA in September, less than six months after its market introduction in March 2014. The Garmin G3000 avionics suite in the Citation CJ3+ includes turbulence-detecting weather radar, TCAS II, advanced Terrain Awareness Warning Systems (TAWS) and automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B). The Citation CJ3+ burns less fuel and costs less in maintenance costs per flight hour than many other light jets. Visit http://cessna.txtav.com/en/citation/cj3.
Successful EBACE Debut For Quest
Quest Aircraft Company (www.questaircraft.com) had a successful debut at the recent European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (EBACE), including the first Kodiak sale by Quest's new European dealer, Rheinland Air Service (RAS). University Of Cincinnati-Clermont College Streamlines Career Path For Aviators
The University of Cincinnati (UC)-Clermont College Aviation Technology Professional Pilot Training Program (www.ucclermont.edu/aviation-information) received authority from the FAA to certify its graduates for the Restricted Airline Transport Pilot Certification (R-ATP). Regulations require that all airline pilots possess an ATP certificate. The R-ATP allows a pilot to meet that requirement and fly as an airline first officer before reaching the total ATP experience and qualifications required of a captain. UC Flight training is conducted at the Clermont County Airport in Batavia, Ohio, by Sporty's Academy, Inc. Students study all facets of safe, efficient aircraft operation including flight planning, weather evaluation and modern methods of navigation, and fly in a fleet of modern, well-equipped aircraft.

Micro AeroDynamics' VG Kits Raise The Service Ceiling
Micro AeroDynamics (www.microaero.com) has sold more than 20,000 vortex generator (VG) kits to the owners of more than 700 models of GA aircraft. The company has accumulated extensive documentation about the enhanced effects VGs have on stall speed and slow flight control. Recently, there seems to be an added benefit: Vortex generators appear to increase the service ceiling of an aircraft by 15%-18%. Dick Britton, a CFI, was climbing over icing conditions in a Cessna Skylane and topped the clouds at 22,000 feet---3,100 feet above the service ceiling number in the POH. Jim Price went for an altitude record in his Long-EZ. He got to 31,000 feet the first time, then installed VGs and made it to 35,027 feet, breaking the earlier record of 33,600 feet for his class. Micro AeroDynamics believes that the service ceiling of an aircraft is reached when the available power has diminished to the point that the ensuing angle of attack breaks up the boundary layer, preventing any more lift. With vortex generators attached, the angle of attack remains below the critical point for an additional several thousand feet.

Just Aircraft Names UK Dealer
Just Aircraft (www. justaircraft.com) has named Robert Pooler as its dealer in the United Kingdom to sell SuperSTOL aircraft kits, pending approval by England's Civil Aviation Authority. Once that consent is received, other countries in the European Union are expected to issue similar authorizations soon. "The response has certainly been much stronger than we anticipated," said Troy Woodland, designer of the SuperSTOL. "That has led to changes in our production line along with refinements to the design. With our new outlet in the U.K., we anticipate a significant increase in shipments." The SuperSTOL is a short-takeoff and -landing aircraft that can take off or roll out on landing in a little more than 50 feet. With 29-inch tundra tires, it can land in just about any type of clearing, riverbed or shoreline. Skis and floats are options for the two-seat, side-by-side aircraft.
