B-29 Doc Arrives For AirVenture

For the first time, the B-29 Boeing Superfortress Doc has landed at Oshkosh AirVenture. Arriving on Saturday, the warbird received a large and enthusiastic welcome. Sean Elliott, EAA's vice president of advocacy and safety, flew Doc in from Wichita, Kansas.

Doc, originally part of the Seven Dwarves squadron, was retired in 1956. Its retirement wasn't exactly quiet---it spent some time as a target for bomber training. In 2000, efforts began to rebuild the historic warbird. After 16 years of much care and attention towards the restoration and rebuilding effort, Doc flew again in July 2016.

Doc didn't just come to be admired. It will be joined by fellow B-29 FIFI for a flight together. The flight will be the first time two B-29s have been in the air together in five decades. The flight is scheduled for Tuesday, with additional appearances on Friday and Saturday. FIFI is due to arrive at AirVenture this afternoon.
