This popular version of Skyhawk comes with same engine as the classic 172, but is rated for an additional 300 rpm and develops a corresponding 20 more hp. Consequently the SP produces a touch better rate-of climb, a shade higher cruise speed, and 500' more service ceiling. That edge in performance has made the Skyhawk SP a big seller over its more conventional Skyhawk.
