The Coolest Mooneys Ever Get FAA Approval

And we find out why it took awhile’€¦ and it’s a great surprise.

Mooney announced on Tuesday the long-awaited certification of its new piston single speedsters, the Acclaim Ultra and the Ovation Ultra and they change the whole nature of Mooney flying.

Mooney launched the new Ultras in early 2016, and it looked as though the certification effort would be easy. When the company announced the big news the other day, one big reason for the delay became clear: the new Mooneys will feature the new Garmin G1000 NXi flight deck. The planes feature an all-new front composite deck that takes the place of the sheet-metal enclosures that every previous Mooney M20 employed. The big takeaways were a second door and doors that were much wider, allowing much easier entry and exit, especially from the rear seats. The new planes also have bigger, wider and lower windows for much better light and cabin friendliness.
