Name three propeller manufacturers off the top of your head. Chances are pretty good that if you've spent any time flying GA aircraft at all, Hartzell made your list. And it's no wonder. Founded in 1917 by Robert Hartzell, Hartzell Propeller has been manufacturing aircraft propellers since the days of the Wright Brothers. Over the last century, the company has built more than 500,000 propellers, from its first props carved from walnut logs with hand axes to its current selection of aluminum and composite designs.
To celebrate its centennial, Hartzell has planned a series of twelve airshows throughout the year. The first one will be next week at Sun ’N Fun. The show schedule isn't the only way Hartzell is celebrating its first hundred years, though. "Internally, we will be doing some very special things throughout the year in Piqua with our employees, retirees and their families," said Joe Brown, President of Hartzell Propeller, "because the people of Hartzell have poured their heart and soul into this family owned business that has never, ever lost sight of where we came from or where we are headed."
