Cirrus Earns Production Certificate For SF50 Vision Jet

What the achievement means to Cirrus and those who hold orders for the single-engine jet.

On Monday Cirrus Aircraft earned FAA production certification for the SF50 Vision Jet. Cirrus received type certification for the jet late last year. But what is production certification?

Well, just like it sounds, a production certificate gives Cirrus the okay to build the jets. As you probably know, Cirrus has already delivered a number of jets, but in order to do that, it had to have each one signed off by the FAA. A production certificate, which in many ways is harder to achieve than a type certificate, gives the company the ability to stamp the FAA seal of approval on its own jets without the FAA having to oversee every step of the process.

Cirrus has said it plans to deliver between 25 and 50 jets in 2017 and to potentially double that in 2018.
