WAR Aircraft Replicas is a company formed to market kits and plans for 1/2-scale World War II aircraft replicas. The FockeWulf 190 was singled out to be the first prototype, and development started in 1973. The first flight was made in 1974. Subsequent versions were to be the F4U Corsair, Hawker Sea Fury, and the Republic Thunderbolt. All were to use the same common wooden fuselage box and wing spar construction. To duplicate various fighter aircraft, polyurethane foam was shaped and converted with high-strength laminating fabric and epoxy resin to form a rigid yet lightweight structure.
The tailwheel is retractable and even has an emergency system to manually deploy the gear. Power is supplied by a modified 70-hp 1,600cc Volkswagen engine turning a three-blade fixed-pitch prop.
