Whizbang Features For Cirrus SR22 For 2016
New plane has remote door locks, LED entry lighting and a breathtaking new price point
Cirrus has unveiled its 2016-edition fl.agship (at least until the Vision Jet launches) SR22 piston single. While the model is unchanged from the previous edition in terms of aerodynamics, powerplant and avionics, it does feature a number of admittedly very cool quality of life improvements and a price tag that will get your attention. Is it the first million-dollar Cirrus? Not quite, but it's nine-tenths of the way there, at $900,000-plus.
Some of the improvements are noteworthy, including the inclusion of Garmin Flight Stream, which allows you to upload flight plans from your ForeFlight or Garmin Pilot flight planning apps, to save time spent on the ground. The excellent utility---I demoed it last summer---essentially makes your iPad a full-featured input device for your navigator on the Perspective G1000 cockpit in the Cirrus (or in any Flight Stream equipped airplane for that matter; it's available as a surprisingly affordable aftermarket add-on for your vintage Bonanza or Centurion too).
Other upgrades include remote wireless entry, entry lighting and new trim packages. Look in Plane & Pilot for a future flight report on the new SR22.
