NTSB Looks Into Horrific Crash of Piper Cheyenne Captured On Video

The NTSB is investigating the crash of a Piper Cheyenne PA-31T late last week that left five dead. The plane, a pressurized turboprop twin, crashed in Putnam County, Georgia, killing all five on board.

According to the FAA and to flight tracking sites, the plane had taken off from Williston, Florida, and was en route to Newcastle, Indiana, at 22,000 feet when it disappeared from radar. There were no distress calls made.

Four of the victims were family members going to a funeral in Indiana. The plane impacted in a rural area. No one on the ground was injured.

The video, captured by a local resident, shows the plane on fire in a vertical descent in a tight spin and apparently structurally damaged. Photos show that the wreckage from the plane was scattered over a wide area.

There were reports of thunderstorms in the area the Cheyenne was flying in.
