Cirrus/Garmin Get FAA Approval For Autoland
The revolutionary feature allows for an automatic unattended landing in case of pilot incapacitation.
Cirrus Aircraft has earned FAA certification for the Autoland feature in its Cirrus SF-50 Vision jet. The system, which complements the whole-aircraft parachute system in the jet, is capable at the touch of a button of selecting an airport, configuring the plane for descent, arrival and landing all while avoiding adverse weather and communicating with passengers and ATC along the way.
The system was first certificated in the Piper M600 single-engine turboprop, which Plane & Pilot test-flew for a feature story earlier this year. Daher has also earned FAA and EASA approval for the feature in its TMB 940 turboprop single. Autoland is part of Garmin's Autonomi suite of safety utilities.
Autoland will be standard on all Cirrus Vision Jets and is available as a retrofit on G2 models.
