September 24 is designated as Girls In Aviation Day, and Women in Aviation International (WAI) chapters around the world will be holding events to encourage and inspire young women to pursue their aviation dreams. The events are designed to bring the passion, exploration, learning and excitement of aviation and aerospace to girls and young women who are dream of learning to fly and pursuing careers in aviation.

At the San Diego Chapter, Girls in Aviation Day event will be held at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar on September 23, as part of the annual airshow in the afternoon. Twenty girls, ages 8 -- 16, will be selected through an essay contest to participate in this special event, which includes an opportunity to meet the Blue Angel pilots and see an F/A-18 Hornet jet up close.

At the First In Flight Chapter in Greensboro, North Carolina, the Girls in Aviation Day event will be held at Sugar Valley Airport on September 24. Young girls between the ages of 10 -- 17 can come out to participate in aviation-related events, with activity stations ranging from a hot air balloon display to flying a flight simulator to discovering their first experience flying in an airplane.

Regardless of the WAI chapter, Girls in Aviation Day is a wonderful networking opportunity to connect with other girls and women who are excited about aviation; explore the jobs available in the aviation and aerospace industries, and meet women who are working the field; and experience the fun aviation offers.
