SocialFlight 6.0 Launched

New features allow pilots to compete for prizes and find great aviation deals

If you're looking for things to do in and around your airplane without adding to the cost, the SocialFlight app offers some fun opportunities. Though SocialFlight has been around for awhile, the updated version---SocialFlight 6.0---launched this Wednesday at Sun ’n Fun with new features and a cleaner design.

There are two big feature additions. The first lets users collect, store and redeem discounts and promotions from aviation companies and local aviation businesses. The information is location-based: fly into an airport with the app, and the FLY2WIN Rewards feature provides a list of deals available in the area.

The FLY2WIN Challenge is more active. A pilot can earn points by flying to locations, businesses, and events and checking in on the app. Everyone earning points is entered for a monthly prize drawing, but the higher up on the leaderboard a person is, the more entries they get. The prizes aren't tiny either. The list includes a Glass Panel EFD1000 PFD Pro from Aspen Avionics, several complete ADS-B systems from L3 Aviation Products and FreeFlight Systems, and headsets from Lightspeed and Bose, to name a few.

SocialFlight offers listings and ratings for more than 20,000 aviation events, points of interest, and destinations. Its SocialFlight University provides free educational videos and reference materials. There is also a Hangar feature so that users can share their pictures and connect with fellow pilots. The app itself is free, as are all of its associated features.
