The 14-year restoration of the C-97G “Angel of Deliverance” took place at Floyd Bennett Field and culminated with a brief re-opening of runway 6

A T-34 Mentor camera ship circled low as the C-97G started engines, warmed up and taxied for departure.
Runway 6, now crowded on either side with dense brush and trees, allowed the C-97G 5,000 feet of pavement and a departure path over water and clear of obstacles. Trees hid the vast majority of the takeoff roll from spectators who were held to the parking lot at Aviator Sports.
The Historic Aircraft Restoration Project (HARP) Hangar houses numerous aircraft in varying stages of preservation, such as this Grumman Goose in New York Police colors.
The HARP in Hangar B, a working restoration facility, has picnic tables scattered about and encourages the public to interact with volunteers as they preserve historic aircraft.
Floyd Bennett Field's terminal and control tower are in the midst of a rehabilitation project and are slated to reopen to the public November 11, 2017.
