Bearhawk LSA Completes Maiden Flight
The Bearhawk LSA, which made its debut at AirVenture 2012 as a prototype, made its maiden flight to this year's AirVenture. The aircraft completed the journey from Texas to Oshkosh in 9.7 hours of flight time. Cruise speeds varied from 98 mph, burning 4.5 gph, to 118 mph, burning 6 gph. Empty weight is 818 pounds, allowing for a useful load of 322 pounds with a full 30-gallon tank of fuel. The airplane is designed for a maximum weight of 1,500 pounds with utility category strength, an additional margin above the aircraft's certified 1,320-pound LSA limit. AOPA Returns To Jeppesen For Flight Planning
Starting in 2015, AOPA will return to the AOPA Internet Flight Planner (AIFP) powered by Jeppesen, thus retiring the current flight planner, FlyQ Web. AIFP will remain a free member benefit. GAMA Announces 2015 Aviation Design Challenge
The General Aviation Manufacturers Association announced that it will hold the third Aviation Design Challenge in 2015. The nationwide competition promotes Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) skills through aviation in U.S. high schools. Lightspeed Treasure Hunt Winner
Christopher Burgermeister of Yorkville, Ill., has been named the winner of the Lightspeed Aviation Treasure Hunt at AirVenture 2014. The Treasure Hunt follows a geocaching model, with searchers relying on GPS coordinates and clues to find hidden objects. Burgermeister was randomly drawn from a group of 50 treasure hunters who found hidden treasure chests spread across the AirVenture grounds. Burgermeister will receive Lightspeed's new Zulu PFX ANR headset. He's a CFII with Commercial Pilot Single and Multi-Engine Land certificates. President Of Wings Of Hope To Retire
Douglas Clements announced that he's stepping down as President of Wings of Hope in 2015. Clements joined Wings of Hope in 1997 as President, and together with the Board of Directors, built the St. Louis-based organization into a world resource to help the impoverished. Beechcraft Delivers T-6 Trainers And King Air To Mexican Navy
Beechcraft delivered two Beechcraft T-6C+ military trainers ordered earlier this year to the Mexican Navy SecretarÃa de Marina (SEMAR), as well as one King Air 350ER, the second of four on order, as part of the Mexican Navy's ongoing fixed-wing aircraft modernization program. "Being chosen by the Mexican Navy for this modernization program shows a superior level of confidence not only in Beechcraft products to fill its mission requirements, but in the product support we'll provide as part of the agreement," said Russ Bartlett, President, Beechcraft Defense Company. The newly delivered King Air is part of a four-aircraft contract signed earlier this year.
