Satellite images of the western wildfires can’t suitably communicate the sheer enormity of these disasters. And images taken close up of our heroic firefighters (on the ground and in the air), don’t capture the daunting scale of it all.
The fires in Colorado are still raging, having consumed millions of acres and forcing evacuations, including a large-scale one going on today. The Cameron Peak Fire is one of the largest in the state, having burned for more than a month and being fought by more than 1,800 personnel. The blaze is 57% contained, according to authorities.
Which is why we were struck by Greg Moore’s shot of a Citation in the foreground with the Cameron Peak Fire in the background. It makes clear the size of these blazes and underscores just how terrible these blazes are. Thank you, Greg, for sharing it.
Moore, by the way, is a former Major League Baseball pitcher, having played for five-plus seasons for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and the Colorado Rockies.
